Down Eighteen Percent
Eighteen percent fewer deer were harvested this year. Why? It was just to cold to soon. I guess I didn't think that this would impact the food pantries as well. Did you know that each year some very generous hunters donate the meat to processing businesses which in turn prepare ground meat and is then given to food pantries. For some folks this is the only way them to put meat on the table. Wow....generous hunters and meat processors we are thankful for you!

The Count Down Is On
Rotary Lights is a gift to the Coulee Region each year. Over 2,600,000 lights sparkle in Riverside Park in downtown La Crosse. The lights switch on after the opening program on Friday. Please remember to bring along a gift of cash or canned goods for our local food pantries. In the spirit of Rotary Lights we thank you for considering attending many times this season.

It Only Takes A Little
Overnight our area received anywhere from .5 inches to 1 inch of snow. Now we all must relearn our winter driving skills. The sand and salt trucks were out and very very busy. Many slide offs and fender benders were common during the early hours. It is always a good idea to leave a few minutes early rather than hurry and put your car in the ditch. Its only November.

Pot Holes Now and Forever?
I just heard a report that the roads in the city that need to be repaired will have to wait. There is about the amount of funds available each year to fix two miles of bad streets. There are around 240 miles of roads in the city. How do you keep up with that? One way would be to walk, ride your bike of dodge the pot holes!

More Hunting Focus
So...Gun Deer season is just a few days away. This is the time that so many hunters have been waiting all year long for. All the prep involved with guns, clothing, equipment and facial hair (guys only with the facial hair). The long term forecast does call for some snow on the ridge tops. While I am happy for the hunters with the snowcast I am not as pleased for those of us that get our meat from the local meat department.

Duck Hunting
As I settled in for work this morning at the La Crosse Radio Group a coworker of mine told me of his early morning observation. Because he is a hunter his take was different than mine. He said.....Guess what? I just saw a duck that was leading the flock get shot and drop in mid air. Now because of his hunting background he was in awe by this. I on the other hand felt so sorry for the rest of the flock that their leader could not longer lead them. I may have a big case of the ducks are us. What do you think?

Double Duty
Here is a brilliant new use for an everyday item. A Jumbo Paper Clip. A paper clip can serve as a makeshift zipper-pull replacement. Also when you need to give out a spare set of keys a jumbo paper clip can save the day. Look around and use a little imagination. It is rewarding to make something out of nothing.

Snuggle Store?
So word has it that Madison, Wisconsin has passed a request to offer Snuggling in a retail or spa like setting. Wow...instead of paying money to snuggle with a stranger....how about adopting a furry friend from an animal rescue. Good for all involved!

When to shop??
Christmas shopping starts after you put your fork down this year. With interest I have been following the times that some stores will be open for Black Friday this year. I have seen a store report that they are open 24 hours on Thanksgiving until nine PM on Friday. Not to be out done more and more stores will be open at 8 PM on Thursday and go all night. So Black Friday will not be as important for shopper looking for that super deal? I like to shop at lower crowd times if possible. It is important for me to enjoy looking and thinking of those who I am shopping for.

Time Change for Furry Friends
Over the weekend I had a conversation with our family that was visiting from Colorado. It is hard to keep track of some states and even countries that do not observe time changes. When you work with people all over the world it is a challenge. With that said, how about in your own home. Could someone please tell our cats! It takes a good month for our furry friends to observe our new sleep pattern change. Wow are they slow to go with the schedule!

Don't Forget
Daylight saving time comes to an end Sunday. Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed Saturday night. There may be a few of us that may not remember to do this. I hope I remember!
